Shirley Nootbaar Exhibition Through August 5
Ruth Hussey opens August 8
Valley Art Gallery: 1661 Botelho Drive, Suite 110, Walnut Creek
The featured artist at the Valley Art Gallery currently is Shirley Nootbaar, the well-known local artist who has been a member of the Gallery for over 50 years. Her exhibit is titled "From Ridges, Roads and Ranches" and will run until August 5, 2017. Nootbaar, a third generation Californian, earned her B.F.A. from California College of Arts and Crafts (now CCA) and is presently a free-lance artist-illustrator. She has the unique skill of transforming ordinary scenes with lively technique and dramatic presentation, making her work much more than just a reflection of the subject.
Ruth Hussey, also a California native, is a lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and an artist since childhood. For more than forty years she has concentrated on perfecting her skills, specializing in portraiture, figure and still life paintings. She has studied with a number of distinguished artists at the San Francisco Academy of Art, and her work has won over 100 awards in numerous juried shows throughout the nation, and is held in many private and some corporate collections. This exhibition will feature her works done in egg tempera, a medium used by many famous masters in the late medieval and early Renaissance periods.
In addition to our featured artists, our 2017 summer collection of over 300 new works by Valley Art Gallery Artists is on display, in a wide range of motifs, styles, media and prices, and representing the best of the best from more than 100 East Bay artists. Plus, there are beautifully crafted, ceramic, wood and glass pieces, and original designer jewelry.
Valley Art Gallery is a volunteer run, non-profit organization that has been representing artists of the Bay Area since 1949. Located in downtown Walnut Creek, Valley is the only gallery in the East Bay with a ‘no regrets rental’ program.
