The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is proud to introduce The Lamorinda Small Business Forum. We plan to organize this new program quarterly and in the evening. The new program kicks-off on Thursday, February 18 (note date change from February 11) at 5:30pm to learn legal ways to protect your business. The format is an extended version of our EClub meetings. We begin with a little networking and then move into the program. Our first guest speaker is Asha B. Wilkerson of the The Wilkerson Law Office.
Did you know that small business owners face more labor and employment law suits than any other type in California? Did you know that the Department of Labor Standards Enforcement awarded over $85 million in unpaid wages and penalties to employees in 2012? Labor lawsuits easy to initiate, but, they are also easy to prevent. Understanding the law and implementing proper labor practices are two easy and essential steps to successfully managing any employee workforce. Join us to learn about wage & hour basics, such as properly paying employees, giving adequate meal and rest breaks, overtime payments, and California's new complicated sick leave law.
Asha will cover:
* Essential contract terms
* Rules for hiring employees
* Legal protections to implement now
The program runs from 5:30-7:00 pm, Bank of the West, 3583 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
This event is free for chamber members and non-members. Your RSVP is greatly appreciated at https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ec84wb0027cdf343&oseq=&c=&ch=.
