Lamorinda Arts Council Hosts “Homage to My Grandmother”
Janine Glover Ehrentraut highlights the artwork
of Pam Glover on December 3rd at the Orinda Library Art Gallery
— Maggie Boscoe, Lamorinda Arts Council curator, announced an art showcase and talk starting at 1 pm on Sunday, December 3rd led by Janine Glover Ehrentraut at the Orinda Library Art Gallery, 26 Orinda Way, Orinda. Local art lovers will recall that Janine’s grandmother, Pam Glover (1924 – 2010), taught plein air painting at the Orinda Community Center for 25 years. Pam Glover communicated her love for plein air painting (paintings always done outside in the open air) to all who knew her and raised awareness about the art form.
Considered one of the foremost plein air painters in California, in 1997 Pam Glover was one of the founders of the painting group the Outsiders. They eschewed painting pretty pictures instead painting what was in front of them, be it a dilapidated barn or neatly laid out vineyard. Glover’s richly hued landscapes, with their bold brushstrokes and pops of rectangular color, are instantly recognizable.
By special arrangements with Pam Glover’s family, buyers are invited to take possession of bought artwork during the artist receptions between 1 and 4:30 pm on December 3rd. Prints are also available and all of Glover’s work can be previewed online at http://lamorindaarts.org/gallery “art sales.”
Maggie Boscoe says, “Why not begin the holiday season by enjoying wine and light refreshments as you listen to an insider art talk and meet fellow art lovers.” From 2:30 to 4:30 pm an all-artist reception will be held celebrating Pam Glover’s work as well as three other area artists also showing work in the gallery during the month of December: paintings by Helen Ann Licht and Barney Howard as well as digital paintings by Fred Lee.
