To celebrate its historic 85th anniversary, EastBay Children’s Theatre is decking the halls with a new holiday musical for theentire family: “Christmas In OZ.” Forthe first time ever, the venerated company will be partnering with another EastBay institution: Chanticleers Theatre in Castro Valley will be hosting theWorld Premiere event from November 17, through December 17.
It'sChristmas Time again and somewhere in Kansas, Dorothy is lonely for her friendsback in Oz. And so, with the help of the kindlyMr. Tinker, she builds herself a magical wish machine, and returns to theEmerald City--just in time for the big holiday celebration.
But theholly is quickly stripped of its jolly when a sassy sorceress namedNefariosa crashes the party and kidnaps SantaClaus! Now Dorothy must recruit the Scarecrow, Tin Man andLion to help her rescue Saint Nick and save Christmas for the entire world.
“Christmas In OZ” is an enchanting, full-lengthBroadway-style musical treat for the entire family. L. Frank Baum’sclassic characters have been beloved by young and old for nearly 120 years. And now, a cast of all-new characters has been added to theglittering residents of Baum’s magical world. New faces in the Marvelous Landof OZ include the Gidgety-Gadgety Whiz-Bang Wish Machine, Brigadier Bloop (themilitary-drill-itary commander of the Bloop Brigade), the violet villainess Nefariosa, and even SantaClaus himself!
The scriptand score are overflowing with unforgettable songs, exciting dance numbers,classic comedy, and magical special effects. And it's all thebrainchild of the Bay Area’s own theatricalwizard, RonLytle, creator of“The Man Who Saved Christmas,” “Oh My Godmother!” and more than adozen other musicals.
Theexceptional cast is comprised of talent gathered from throughout the entire BayArea, and includes: Jordyn Foley as Dorothy, Mark Enea as Scarecrow, KrisWilliams as Tin Man, Zac Schuman as Lion, Steve Wilner as Santa Claus, SuzanneHenry as Nefariosa, Diana Kehrig as Glinda and Suzanne Ochs as BrigadierBloop.
