Join The Reutlinger Community and the Lamorinda Arts Council to celebrate local artists between the age of 80 and 99 at a reception in their honor where a video of their recent “Around the World at 80” exhibit will be screened, artwork from the Opening Minds Through Artwill be on view, and light refreshments will be provided. The event takes place on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. at The Reutlinger Community, 4000 Camino Tassajara in Danville, entrance on Parkhaven Drive.
The “Around the World at 80” exhibit shows works by octogenarians - and older - in a variety of media including ceramics, sculptures, paintings, collages, stitchery, digital images, wood carvings, batik hand-painted goose eggs, linocuts and etchings.
The gala celebration is co-sponsored by The Reutlinger Community and the Lamorinda Arts Council. As co-curators of the Lamorinda Art Council's "Around the World at 80" art exhibit and reception last July, Maggie Boscoe, Elana O'Loskey and Bill Carmel join Susan Garell in inviting seniors to attend this screening of a four minute video of the event. Garell is an accomplished videographer who captured all the highlights of the reception.
The Reutlinger’s award winning Art Program, “Discovering the Artist Within,” offers residents an opportunity to create art within an inspiring and encouraging atmosphere,” states Betty Rothaus, The Reutlinger’s Artist-in-Residence. “The Opening Minds Through Art is an intergenerational art program for people with dementia that we use. It is grounded in person-centered ethics and founded on the fact that people with dementia are capable of expressing themselves creatively.”
