Local Orchestra Pays Tribute to Veterans by Offering $10 Tickets
The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra will present “We Are the Nation—A Salute to Veterans” on Saturday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m. at El Campanil Theatre in Antioch, and Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Lesher Center in Walnut Creek.
As a demonstration of gratitude to the men and women who have served our nation, tickets will be reduced to $10 for veterans at the Sunday Lesher performance, where tickets are normally $30 for adults and $20 for seniors. Veterans may use discount code “NATION” when ordering.
Tickets will remain a bargain for the Antioch performance at $15 for adults and $12 for seniors.
A highpoint of the concert will be Richard Rodgers’ stirring Victory at Sea, an enduring suite of music created from the score for the groundbreaking 1952 NBC documentary series. Then, with special permission to appear in uniform, the orchestra’s own Technical Staff Sergeant Dan Olivas will sing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel. It is widely believed that much of Rodgers’ inspiration for Victory at Sea came from Vaughan Williams’ early compositions.
The orchestra will also perform the poignant Hymn to the Fallen from the film “Saving Private Ryan” by John Williams, the rousing American Salute by Morton Gould, Esprit de Corps by Robert Jager, Spitfire, Prelude and Fugue by William Walton, and English Dances by Malcolm Arnold.
